International Festival of boring films 29 March to 14 April

Fed up with watching Bruce Willis save the world? Looking for something that takes a little longer to get into and understand? The international festival of boring films is for you. In the international fesitval of film chiant you will not find US blockbusters. On the opening night at Variétés cinema  for 11€ you can see films such as Please Say Something by David O'Reilly, a masterpiece of digital expression, and Enjoy Poverty by Renzo Martens, a film that flies in the face of those humanitarian documentaries that get everywhere.

On 3 April at the Protestant Temple 15 rue Grignan there's a cine concert, four musicians accompany Katarina Golubeva in her wanderings around Siberia, a concert by Toboflex and radical brutist guitarist Eric Menkkinen. There's a "mise en bouche", Moondawn by Argentinian Pedro Lopez, whose electronic sounds accompany another film featuring Golubeva. All for 11€, you can reserve by e-mail here

Ahmad Compaore Trio 13 July

This is one of a series of events taking place at the Théâtre Silvain, an open air amphitheatre just above the Corniche (Anse de Fausse Monnaie - take the 83 bus to Fausse Monnaie and walk up the steps). Go along to see the drummer, percussionist and composer Ahmad Compaoré, performing with Jeff Kellner (guitar), Sylvain Terminiello (double bass)  and special guest Christophe LeLiol (bugle and trumpet).   It starts at 9pm and it's free.

There is also a projection of the 1969 Egyptian film, by Shadi Abdel Salam, La Momie (The Mummy).

Make a film with Kinofada 28 April - 4 May

The first KinoKabaret in Marseille. Kinofada is an international network of people who are mad about making films. The KinoKabaret is an opportunity to make a short film and then show it to the public.
There are 2 sessions, one Saturday 28 April starting at 11am with a production meeting, with film projection at 8:30 on Monday 30th, and the second starting at 2pm on 1 May with projection at 8:30 on 4 May.
Costs 15€ for the first session, 20€ for the second and 30€ for both. You'll find details of how to register and how to get there on the KinoKabaret website (in English if you scroll down the page).

If you dont want to make the film you can always go along to the projections and see what Kinofadas can do.

An International Festival of Painfully Boring Films 20 - 24 April

Difficult to describe, a film festival with a difference, this is a selection of films have been chosen because they were considered to have "commercial handicaps" - too long, too political, too obscure, too odd ...  so, not necessarily painful or boring, maybe just a little bit challenging.

The films are at the Varietés cinema. On Saturday there's a cineconcert with a Danish/Swedish silent black and white film from 1922 "Häxan, la Sorcellerie à travers les âges", censored since it's release, which is said to have been influenced by the paintings of Bosch.
